Breast Augmentation

Thanks to advancements in surgical procedures and implant development, more and more women today are choosing to have breast enhancement surgery to balance out their body and increase self confidence. If weight loss has drastically reduced the size and altered the shape of your breasts; if your breasts have become smaller and lost firmness after having children and breastfeeding; if one of your breasts is significantly smaller than the other; or if you simply feel self-conscious and wish for larger breasts, augmentation mammaplasty might be the right choice for you. This cosmetic procedure uses implants to enlarge and reshape the breasts.

Dr. Gorman uses multiple techniques to ensure the best results. One being a "breast collage" for a visual interpretation of what you see for yourself. Are you ready to put together your Breast Augmentation collage for Dr. Gorman? Read further for tips to creating your collage today.

During your consultation you will discuss in depth what implant option is best for you. Round or Shaped? Gel or Saline? Smooth or Texted. Visit the Mentor breast implant guide for information about each option.

Procedures that can be combined with Breast Augmentation:

  • Breast Implant Removal or Exchange

  • Open Capsulectomy (removal of hardening of scar tissue)

  • Binelli (nipple / areola complex reduction)

  • Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

As a woman ages, her skin loses its elasticity. This combined with the effects of gravity can cause ptosis or sagging of the breasts. If you are happy with the size of your breasts but not with their firmness or the effects gravity has had on them, you could be a good candidate for a mastopexy or breast lift. This procedure removes excess breast skin by making an incision around the nipple and in some cases below the nipple and into the breast fold to rise, reshape and firm your breasts. You can also combine this procedure with breast augmentation surgery  to increase your breast size using implants while you reshape and lift. Austin Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. William H. Gorman, will generally always include a breast lift along with a breast reduction to obtain the best results.

Breast Reduction

Sometimes large breasts can be the cause of physical discomfort including neck, shoulder and back pain, or skin rashes underneath the breast. A reduction mammaplasty is designed to reduce those discomforts and enhance the overall appearance of your breasts by removing excess breast tissue and skin, making your breasts smaller and firmer. A similar surgery can be performed on men with enlarged breast tissue (a condition called Gynecomastia). These breast reduction surgeries have some of the highest rates of patient satisfaction of any plastic surgery procedures.

Breast Asymmetry Correction

As the body naturally ages or experiences significant changes from weight gain or loss the breasts may take on an asymmetrical appearance. If this occurs implant replacement may be necessary to reinstate an even appearance.

Accessory Breast Tissue Removal

Breast tissue can develop in areas beyond the normal breast location. Although it usually does not require any treatment, it can be unsightly and become a source of embarrassment for patients. Surgical excision is the typical treatment and results in permanent removal of breast tissue.

Breast Augmentation Collage Tips

So, you've finally decided to move forward with a breast augmentation. Now that the hard decision is over it's time for the fun decision - choosing your future breasts. Although the shape, size, and nipple placement of your current breasts will ultimately dictate your final results you are able to pick out the perfect breast size for you by skimming through our pictures here in the office as well as the helpful site we have listed below.

Because every lingerie store and department may include a different "measuring" system - for example, Victoria Secret may tend to sway to larger size (i.e. if you think you're regularly a C or D at Victoria Secret you maybe a size DD or DDD). No individual store is right in their measuring systems, but they are all slightly different. Also, each woman's figure tends to favor one size over another - for example, a petite woman may favor B or C sized breasts, which are indeed proportionate to her body size; whereas, a larger woman may favor what she thinks is a C on a regular woman, but is actually a D or DD. This is why our office likes to use images versus a measuring scale that differs depending on the observer or measuring party and using CC's, which we do not expect any of our patients to know - you can leave that up to the doctor who has over 30 years of plastic surgery breast augmentation experience.
